WORK EXPERIENCE

1993 - present: Freelance writer

Published feature articles, interviews, and reviews of concerts, books, and movies for publications including The Seattle Weekly, The Stranger, Neo Magazine, Moviemaker Magazine, Resonance Magazine, Goldmine, Westwind, The Oly Review of Books, The Urban Spelunker, and Hubcap. Published online at Salon , Addicted to Noise, E! (The Entertainment Channel), Pandemonium Online, and through ENSO Audio (Discover Music), and Microsoft's Seattle Sidewalk.

1994 - 1995: Contributing editor Oly Review of Books

Commissioned, edited, and wrote literary reviews, prose, and inteviews, worked with writers on revisions, commissioned photos and graphics, coordinated with the chief editor and publisher of this quarterly literary review. The Oly Review of Books ceased publication in October 1995.

June 1992 - August 1992: Writing intern Seattle Press Publishing, Inc.

Writing intern, responsible for generating feature articles dealing extensively with community affairs; also prepared a weekly calendar.

September 1989 to June 1992: Arts and Entertainment editor, Cooper Point Journal

Conceived, assigned, received, edited, printed, and laid out arts and entertainment features, interviews, book reviews, movie reviews, theater reviews, and reviews of live performances for this weekly student newspaper. Selected, sized, and laid out appropriate photographs and graphics. Commissioned and supervised original artwork where needed. Wrote and laid out photo captions and credits. Wrote stories on deadline, including feature stories, interviews, obituaries, book reviews, movie reviews, theater and live performance reviews.

1991 - 1992: Editor Slightly West

Solicited poems, prose, artwork, and photographs, convened panel of judges for discussion and selection, supervised layout and printing processes for this annual literary journal, a student-run publication of the Evergreen State College.

APPLICABLE SKILLS

Excellent written and oral communication skills, solid researching abilities. Strong ability to synthesize, organize, and present information on a deadline. Hands-on knowledge of IBM-compatible and Macintosh computer systems and software, including WordPerfect, and Microsoft Word for Windows.

Proficient keyboarding skills (65 words per minute).
